VimpelCom, Nokia, Microsoft sign Windows Phone Store partnership

Operator group VimpelCom inked an alliance with Microsoft and Nokia to add operator billing support to the Windows Phone Store for subscribers, in a move it said will “deliver a new, enhanced digital entertainment experience for VimpelCom customers across its markets”. The companies will also add a “VimpelCom Shelf” to the store, which will feature up to 200 selected apps, tailored to support local content and services.

Vimpelcom, the Russaian operator group has signed a deal with Microsoft and Nokia to add operator billing support to the Windows Phone Store for subscribers.

A road block on the sale of Lumia 900 Windows phone has been set up by the German T-Mobile company. Its decision to not stock the phone is assumed to be due to its incapability of delivering quality to the user experience. Nokia has already experienced customer wrath by Lumia 900 users in other countries for denying them an upgrade to the latest mobile operating system.

Digging in deep in a personal interview the inside source confirmed that phone’s incompatibility to upgrade to the upcoming OS versions is the prime reason. The stand of the mobile company is much appreciated. T-Mobile’s bold step to opt out of the sale of the Lumia 900 in Germany defines the customer centric approach that other carriers have to keep in mind while designing the phone.

Kudos to T-Mobile for the admirable stand..!!

Nokia to acquire imaging firm Scalado

Nokia yesterday presented its new strategy where it would be undergoing some major changes including a massive reduction in workforce. A part of that strategy is to acquire the Scalado AB.

Håkan Persson, chief executive officer of Scalado AB commented

Scalado’s solutions are used in millions on devices worldwide. Post this acquisition, the existing licensing agreements will stay in place. An excellent model, Windows 610 was sold in no time. Little were we aware that Windows has issued a statement restricting “few” apps on the device. Now that we know that this “few” includes hottest games ever: Angry Birds!!!

Nokia and Microsoft are covering the fact under the news that assures of a version of Angry Birds specifically optimized for Windows Phone Tango’s 256 MB RAM. Editor-in-chief, Heidi Lemmetyinen of Nokia Conversations blog said:

While the app is not available as yet, we are positive to announce the release date soon.

As they say: “There is a silver lining behind a dark cloud”. We just hope the dark clouds give way to the light on the other side.

As they say: “There is a different pleasure in waiting…so wait for some more time…” Nokia has postponed the promised dates for the shipment of the Lumia 900 in Germany from 25^th May to 31^st May. The reason attributed to the wonderful response of the consumers in other countries!!

Since the German readers have been eagerly awaiting the arrival, Amazon Germany has offered the opportunity to pre-order the phones at the current price of EUR 575 in white, black and Cyan.

Nokia has released its 2011 sustainability report. The report covers the ethical, socio-economic and environmental areas most relevant to Nokia’s business and its stakeholders.

The report highlights Nokia’s performance in the areas where business practices most affect society and environment. There were nine key topics in 2011 which are reviewed in the report. These topics are improving people’s life with mobile technology; Nokia’s economic impact; labor and social issues in Nokia’s operations; social issues and ethics in supply chain; customer satisfaction, privacy and product safety; environmentally leading mobile device range; take back and recycling; green operations and facilities; green supply chain and logistics.

Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop says in the report

Nokia strongly believes that access to communication and information is a right, not a privilege. Mobile communications technology has the power to strengthen public life and role of citizens around the globe, and it has proven time and again that it can democratize the spread of information

Rainbowmod custom ROM for Lumia 800 released

Lumia is keeping everybody on the toes with the latest news each day. Custom Rom has been devised for the Lumia 800, much like Lumia 710 on the XDA forums – RainbowMod. Available in English and Russian language, this custom mod is built on Windows Phone “Tango” based on the Chinese firmware. The only major requirement being the Qualcomm boot loader configured on the devices.

The Features of RainbowMod on the phone includes:

Full Unlock from UltraShot
Removed OEM applications (Nokia Drive, Maps, etc.)
Search key remapping
QuickLaunch menu for quick switching state of WiFi, 3G, Flight mode, Power save, etc.
Ability to access file system via WiFi/USB
