CSR, short for Cambridge Silicon Radio, have just announced a WiFi controller which is advertised to be compatible with Windows Mobile 7:
windows mobile 7 hardware CSR announces Windows Mobile 7 ready WiFi chip

Seeing hardware manufacturers announce the first WM7-ready products means that Microsoft has already been able to stabilize the underlying drivers to an extent which makes hardware driver design at least feasible – which means that the company should be able to push out working evaluation boards within 6 to 12 months.

Just in case anybody of you cares what the critter does: WiFi controllers act as the “bridge” between the host CPU (the chip which runs programs, etc) and the analog WiFi antenna circuits. This removes computational burden from the CPU and makes WiFi easier to implement.
