Verizon’s version of the Samsung Omnia suffered from a software lock which forced users to use Verizon’s custom navigational solution. The carrier promised to lift the lock from three of its smartphones, but didn’t do so for two of them.
This has now changed – the Omnia can now be used with third-party GPS solutions. Samsung claims the following:
Samsung has released a software upgrade for the SCH-I910, which is recommended to be installed. This upgrade includes numerous software additions/enhancements/corrections. The update may take up to 10 minutes to complete if the system is already set up.
* The latest Microsoft Adaptation Kit Upgrade (AKU 1.5.1) for Windows mobile is Included in this Update.
* Open Standalone LBS Supported and Performance Enhanced (This may Support 3rd Party Applications).
* VZ Access Manager Supports Bluetooth Connection (SPP).
As we are looking at a ROM update here, be prepared to loose all the data on the phone before hitting this link…
