Toshiba’s TG01 can be considered a mystery handset to at least some extent – the device was handled multiple times, but there is no definite review so far.
Engadget Mobile managed to score a bit of hands-on time with the critter after its UK release – their verdict is as follows:
…Yet the overwhelming feeling after playing around with the TG01 for a while is one of frustration. The somewhat sluggish and unwieldy UI fails to properly tie together all the capabilities of the underlying hardware and the end product is a smartphone that can be said to amount to less than the sum of its parts.

Hi
I went to my local orange shop to sign up for the TG01, as reading the spec I thought this was going to be the phone for me!
The sales person did not have a clue how to turn the phone on then found out she had the battery in upside down.
Well I have found other phones unresponsive, but the TG01 takes first prize, scrolling up through menus was fine but scrolling accross the page was unresponsive, tokk several attempts to get it to work, whilst trying to scroll accross just kept opening different applications instaed of scrolling.
Very disappointing as now I think I have to go for the Iphone instead
Hi Mark,
first of all sorry for my somewhat slow reply!
The TG01’s main issue is a lack of RAM…which makes it a less than ideal WM smartphone. Have you tried a Sony Ericsson or HTC device?
All the best
