Even though Dell axed the Axim series quite some time ago, the devices are still going strong. The picture on the left shows an unnamed employee of the German Duesseldorf airport using a Dell Axim X50 to perform a voluntary census of airport visitors.
The lady admitted openly to be new to PocketPc devices and used a wrist strap to protect it from theft. A (very slow) custom census tool was used – while it worked somewhat well, its slow speed was annoying.
Microsoft’s extremely small soft keyboard furthermore escalated the problem, as our interviewee had never used a software keyboard below and struggled with the small keys…
