Meizu’s Windows Mobile-powered iPhone lookalike has managed to get loads of press over the last few months…which is, at least partially, the work of their CEO. He keeps leaking bits of info slowly but surely, which ensures a steady stream of column inches.
His latest oeuvre hits us via MeizuMe – he claims that the upcoming Meizu M9 (CDMA-based) will be able to use the same software as the current M8:
Meizu CEO Jack keeps leaking tidbits on the upcoming Meizu M9. Just a few hours ago, he wrote on the company BBS that the Meizu M9 phone will run the same software as the current M8, with the only difference from M8 being in hardware and the software drivers required to run the different hardware.
In the same posting, he also mentions that the development of Meizu M9 would finally give the now idle M8 hardware engineers something to do.
As previously stated, there will be two versions of the Meizu M9 that are designed for the CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA networks.
From my point of view, his statement is more than reasonable. Palm has traditionally shared most software across CDMA and GSM handsets, HTC is said to behave similarly.
I feel that the core question is different, and goes along the lines of carrier partners and intellectual property issues…
