I have always wondered how my XPERIA X1 manages to rotate its screen when slid open – traditional handhelds like the Palm Tungsten T3 pictured on the left used a small switch in the mechanics. However, my X1 sometimes rotated its screen randomly…which means that we can’t be looking at a mechanical switch.
PocketNow’s Brandon Miniman put his XPERIA on a speaker one day…and found out that magnetic fields trigger a screen rotation:
So far so good – looks like there is a small magnet somewhere inside the X1. But try explaining that to a security when the theft alarm goes off in a shop, folks
