HTC has just announced that the Touch Pro and Touch Viva will coon become available in India.
viva Touch Pro/Touch Viva hit India

Instead of deploying them via a carrier, the folks have enrolled a cell phone store chain called IDEA Cellular. Thus, the devices will be sold without contract – whiule the Pro will cost about 700$, the Viva will clock in at about 350$:

“HTC Touch Pro and Touch Viva perfectly embody our commitment to build a family of touch phones that are powerful, stylish and offer something for everyone,” said Mr. Jack Tong, Vice President, HTC Asia. We are proud to be working together with a mobile leader like Idea Cellular who shares a similar vision for bringing mobile solutions to India.”

“Innovation and customer delight have been at the forefront of IDEA Cellular’s service delivery to its customers, and this alliance with HTC – a global leader, is a reaffirmation of this commitment to our customers, “said Mr. Pradeep Shrivastava, Chief Marketing Officer, IDEA Cellular Limited. ”Together with HTC, we are pleased to be bringing our customers a complete suite of IDEA communications, browsing, content and Internet services across our network.

As the Touch viva was originally intended to be a “low-end model” for emerging markets, I wonder about the rather steep price. 400$ buy a proper smartphone with a decently fast CPU – I fear that the HTC Touch Niva will have a hard time with its insanely slow 200MhZ OMAP CPU.

Nevertheless, it’s always cool to see devices hit the road – we should get the first reviews soon…
