I always marvel at the power of a bit of bad press. Microsoft’s Windows Mobile team is now more talkative than it has been ever before – here is the latest bit of news:
Windows Mobile 6.5 comes as a stop-gap solution
Motorola’s new CEO has leaked out Windows Mobile 6.5 a few days ago – Steve Ballmer now confirmed it! A recent Telstra Live Webcast saw him stating that:
With releases we’ll make this year – releases we’ll make with 6.5 next year, Windows Mobile 7, I think we have a pretty interesting roadmap.
Windows 7 will ship for mobile and PC at the same time
The UK-based retailer Carphone Warehouse has managed to raise a few heads with impressive announcements recently. However, their latest statement really shoots the ball out of the stadium:
Carphone Warehouse looks set to give away free smartphones running Windows Mobile 7 with copies of the upcoming Windows 7 PC operating system, Register Hardware has learned.
A phone manufacturer source familiar with the phone retailer’s plans told us that the Windows Mobile 7 phone and Windows 7 bundle boxes will be released on the same day that the new desktop OS is launched in the UK, which he said could come during September or October 2009.

I personally think that Microsoft is perfectly aware of the various issues faced by Windows Mobile. The release of WM 6.1 (it was all about Active Directory integration and closing the WMS-Symbian-gap, folks) has proven that Microsoft is committed to improving Windows Mobile and actually sees where the core issues are to be found.
What do you think?
