HTC Touch Diamond “tutorial”

The folks at HTC’s impress me more and more every day.

Engadget currently reports that users who boot up their Touch Diamond for the first time are greeted with a short video that demos how to use the custom TouchFLO interface.

While I am not sure if this isn’t a pointer at the program’s unintuitive handling, it definitely shows that companies like HTC have now begin to understood that their devices cannot penetrate the mass market if users cannot use them.

Smart devices always are more difficult to use than dumbphones - but also offer much more. the platform that manages to take users by their hands and lead them through the system in the most efficient fashion will win the platform war - and the boys at HTC’s have just shown that they will put up a fight!

How to “unlock” the ipaq 310

We had HP’s ipaq 310 in our labs some time ago, and found it - not exactly great due to the locked-down Windows Mobile operating system. I tried to “reanimate” it using the AutoStart feature and a .net CF application - an anonymous user now left behind the following instructions:

it took me 1day too hack my brand new ipaq 314

its not very hard.

1.
Install WinCE Cab manager on you pc
2.
Download Total Commander 2.5 for Windows CE 2.x/Handheld from http://www.ghisler.com/wince2x.htm
cab file for pocketpc
3.
connect you device go to ipaq/os/games
create subfolder cecmd
4.
open cab file with cab manager and extract all files in the new created folder
5.
disconnect device and boot it. go to games klick on cecmd
..now you have access to the files
6.
go to root/windows/programs and start windows explorer…

We are currently pursuing another loaner of the 3xx (our contact at HP’s has become unavailable) - in the mean time, we’d be thankful for any feedback that you may have!
