Windows Mobile 6: official for x7500, unofficial for Fujitsu Siemens N560 GPS

Once again, it’s time for Windows Mobile 6 upgrades:

Official upgrade for x7500
Early adopters that Purchased HTC’s Athena super-machine when it was still running Windows Mobile 5 can now update their boxen to Windows Mobile 6 - if you can find it on HTC’s web site. IMHO, the file is hidden somewhere in the HTC e-club…but the registration form is unavailable as of now.

Unofficial upgrade for N560
According to Engadget, a member of a PPC pirate forum has managed to find a way to update the N560. Engadget does not give a link for obvious reasons(piracy site involved), but users claim success:

914c

The site claims that the machines will be named 614c and 914c, and have the following specs:

  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional
  • 12 keys + Navigation Circle
  • 2.8″ QVGA display(614)/2.5″ QVGA display(914)
  • 3G / HSDPA / WiFi

the::unwired claims that the devices are based on prototypes shown by a company called OKWAP a few months ago - the devices really do look similar:

OKWAP is a new name to me…however, the page goes on to claim that the company behind it all is Inventec, well known as the manufacturer of Palm’s Treos.
